TMO at MWSF - Eye-Fi Demonstrates Wireless Memory Card for Digital Cameras

by , 10:50 AM EST, January 16th, 2008

SAN FRANCISCO -- Eye-Fi, makers of the world's first wireless memory card for digital cameras, today announced new capabilities for Mac users in its signature product, including wireless photo uploads directly into iPhoto, and support for Safari and Leopard.

Eye-Fi

The Eye-Fi card is a standard SD memory card with 2GB of storage, but also contains a Wi-Fi transmitter. What this means is that if you are near your Wi-Fi network, you can upload your photos directly into iPhoto, or choose to upload to one of many leading online photo sharing, printing, social networking or blogging sites. The currently supported sites are Photobucket, Kodak Gallery, WalMart, Costco, Shutterfly, Snapfish, Facebook, Webshots, Picasa, SmugMug, Flickr, Fotki, TypePad, VOX, Dotphoto, Phanfare, Sharpcast and Gallery.

The Web-based Eye-Fi Manager is used for managing card settings and upload preferences. The Eye-Fi supports Wi-Fi security using WEP, WPA or WPA2, works with 802.11g, 802.11b and 802.11n networks, and has a range of 90+ feet outdoors, and 45+ feet indoors. The system works with both Mac OS X 10.3+, Windows XP and Windows Vista. The Eye-Fi is $99, and is available immediately.
